Not sure where to start diags
The last time I drove my '89 Formula (L98 engine) I overheated it and blew the head gaskets. I replaced them this past spring (it's been 5 years since I blew the head gaskets). I just started it up again for the second time since doing that work.
It runs like crap. It shakes pretty badly and dies at idle because it runs rough. However, it does not seem to be blowing coolant. The exhaust looks pretty good - maybe a bit rich. I've got to do something with the throttle body as it sticks.
Anyway, I don't know if the heads are warped or not, nor do I know why it is running so rough. What do you guys think I should be my first steps to diagnose itt? The last car I had to diagnose like this (different issue I think) was a '78 Malibu. Needless to say, that car was a whole different story since it wasn't fuel injected and not computer controlled.
One thought I had was that I may have banged up the intake gaskets pretty bad (for the plenum and runners - not the intake to block gaskets) when I was putting them in. I know that would cause it to run funky, but I'd think it would make it lean rather than rich. Dunno that it would run so rough either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated (short of tearing it back down completely).
